In the manga Akainu melted half of his brain along with his moustache but he still wreaked havoc. I guess they switched it with the stomach hit[13:12] cause that would've been a bit too much for a shonen.

In all honesty he should've died after the first hit if it wasn't for plot armor like who just ups like nothing happened after being hit by a quake right in the face! But then again it only goes to show the strength and endurance of the admirals and why they are navy's greatest weapons.

I do feel that Akainu's swift recovery does kinda sting after what he did, but I am glad they didn't kill him off, as I reckon he's gonna be a good antagonist later in the series. I just wish he got some battlescars or something, as a reminder of Whitebeard's strength. I guess most of his damage was internal bleeding.
